Shakespearean SQL

What Shakespeare did for the English language, many developers do for data management using SQL. These developers can stand and deliver fluent verses of SQL. They can write a soliloquy of SQL into a stored procedure that both amazes and baffles.

To reach the stage of becoming a Shakespearian SQL developer takes years of training and years of experience. For some, their abilities span across multiple database providers. But for most, it is difficult enough to gain the Shakespearean level using a single vendor’s product.

Like everything else in the world of technology, databases and their SQL are continuously changing. Shakespearean SQL developers must follow, understand, and know when new features should be applied.

The very fact that most organizations need Shakespearean SQL developers has become a problem – a costly problem. Most organizations can’t afford having Shakespeare on staff and many can’t afford outside consultants.

Things must change. Data management must become less complex and not require Shakespearean SQL developers. Will less complex languages emerge and these developers become history just as their namesake did?

Of course they will become history. Everything in the IT industry that becomes too difficult for the average developer will be replaced by a better idea.

The better ways are only now beginning to emerge. That means that Shakespearean SQL developers can still enjoy strutting on the IT stage. In time, their names will go down in history while many of their soliloquies will continue in production for years to come.
